How do I get medical grade nitrous oxide?
Very effective for its intended purpose as part of a general anesthetic or for analgesia during painful procedures. Nitrous oxide is a good analgesic but is not a reliable amnestic agent and is not a complete anesthetic at normal atmospheric pressures on Earth.

Well … that depends. You can produce nitrous oxide by heating ammonium nitrate (but not too strongly). It will be contaminated to varying degrees with N2, NO, O2, and maybe other compounds. In a lab setting these can be scrubbed by passing the gas through various solutions. But even if you do this, you would still have to capture the N2O if you intended to use it somehow. Anyway, it’s not a particularly difficult synthesis (you can find detailed instructions on page 484 of Brauer’s ‘Handbook of Preparative Inorganic Chemistry’). But still less convenient than buying it.

Calm and euphoric is the most common way to describe it.
A minority of people can have an idiosyncratic reaction and feel uncomfortable or freak out a bit or a lot. Not common though.
