How do you differentiate between cyclohexene and toluene?

Chuck Darney  Follow

Toluene is an aromatic compound and cyclohexene is not. They have different molecular weights, boiling points, densities, and many other properties. They undergo different reactions. Those are but a few differences.

Cyclohexene has a double bond; so it will decolorize bromine. Toluene will not do this.

Also, the IR spectrum of the double bond is very distinctive at 1680–1640 1/cm.
