How do you draw the reaction of 4-methyl-2-pentene with Cl2?

Courtney Villeda  Follow

The hydrocarbon 4 -methyl-2-pentene is an alkene. So it will undergo simple addition reaction with chlorine.

CH3-CH=CH-CH(CH3)-CH3 + Cl2 →

CH3-CHCl-CHCl-CH(CH3)-CH3

The name of the addition product of this reaction is 2,3-dichlro-4-methylpentane.
