How does molecular structure affect a compounds boiling point?
Ionic solids usually have high melting and boiling point due to the strong net attractions between the ions. Molecular solids usually have low melting and boiling point due to the weak intermolecular forces (IMFs) holding the molecules together. Those molecular solids with high melting and boiling points are formed by large molecules such as acetic acids.
