How to purify an amorphous crude organic compound?

Biniam Berhane  Follow

Hello,
there are several methods of purification possible. Although your substance is amorphus you can try to recrstallize it from different solvents. Secondly, you can dissolve your substance in an appropriate solvent and remove impurities by solvent extraction. Thirdly, you can use chromatography - which I would prefer.
Maybe you can give more information on you compound and the nature of impurities.
Kind regard.

Hi Prabhat, the fact that a compound is amorphous does not mean that you cannot purify it by conventional methods. As Simon Drescher said, if you can give more details on the nature of your compound (and impurity) it would be easier to try and help.
Best regards

Check the purity of the compound using TLC and then choose the purification technique. column chromatography is the best way.

You may use flash column chromatography or Preparative TLC. On the other hand, if you use suitable solvent(s) for recrystallization you may end up with crystalline form of your product. So, I do agree with the answers of the above scientists.

Good luck
