Is table salt in restaurants generally iodized?
There’s a 50/50 chance that it is iodized, or isn’t.
Table salt may or may not be iodized. That isn’t a concern for every restaurant. They aren’t using it for cooking, so they just buy whatever is cheapest from their supplier.
My tables salt is not iodized because it’s the same salt that is used to salt our pasta water.

Partly it depends on local food regulations. In some countries, it is compulsory for table salt to be iodized (seen as a public health issue); in others it is voluntary.

Table salts, for the ignorant, cooks, like the Romans, came to Britain to expoilt our rock salt.
Only fit for the roads!
what makes me laugh so called,” posh chef's swear they only use the best ingredients, then you see" table salt on their tables, thats how you know, they, don't care only about profit margins!
It's an embarrassment seeing it ,it's their up bringing “ mind set!
start ,tasting sea salt, educate your self, its more expensive but you get what you pay for .
Don't jeopardise the boat's hull,for,the sakes,of a few dollar worth of tar".

Iodine is a needed nutrient. Insufficient iodine in the diet leads to goiters, large overgrowths of thyroid tissue. Goiter is accompanied by unpleasant symptoms besides the swelling in the neck.
Years ago there just was not any way to get enough iodine in the diet unless one can get sufficient ocean fish products into the diet. One needs ocean fish at least twice a week to get enough iodine in the diet. That's possible today, but didn't use to be.
So, to answer your question, you may omit iodized salt if you eat ocean fish twice a week. If you do not, keep using the iodized salt.

Nor necessarily. I have asked this question in a restaurant where I got a reply that it was the chef's choice.

Non-iodized salt is sold so as not to discriminate against people who identify as goiter.
Also, iodized salt isn’t kosher.
