Sintered vs perforated plate Büchner funnels
A Büchner funnel is a funnel with the upper section shaped as a cylinder with a a filter at the bottom of the cylinder which then tapers to a funnel shape. A glass fritted Büchner funnel has a fritted glass filter, and a porcelain Büchner funnel has perforations which a filter sets on top of. Both of them are Büchner funnels because both of them have a cylindrical upper section with a filter at the bottom. Both are able to be used under vacuum, however depending on the particulate- the porcelain one doesn’t always require a vacuum. We learn all about these things in chemistry 101in college, memorizing lab ware is one of the very first things you are required to learn. A Büchner funnel can be made of wood even, as long as it has a upper cylinder shape for the upper part with some kind of filter at the bottom, which then tapers and funnels down, that’s it.

Well, seems some people have extended the meaning. If that misnomer has reached textbooks already I dont know. But I wouldnt trust a company that sells frits that are "compatible with pape disk filters" on correct naming. ;) You have already pointed out the problem above.More
