How about propionic acid…

[math]H_{3}C-CH_{2}C(=O)OH(aq) + NaOH(aq) longrightarrow H_{3}C-CH_{2}C(=O)O^{-}Na^{+} + H_{2}O(l)[/math]

And propionic anhydride…

[math]H_{3}C-CH_{2}C(=O)O(O=)C-CH_{2}-CH_{3} stackrel{NaOH,ext{ } Delta}longrightarrow 2H_{3}C-CH_{2}C(=O)O^{-}Na^{+} [/math]

Sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate on reaction with propionic acid to form sodium propionate as shown below.

C2H5COOH + NaOH------>C2H5COONa + H2O

2 C2H5COOH + Na2CO3----->

2 C2H5COONa+CO2+H2O

C2H5COOH + NaHCO3-------->

C2H5COONa+ CO2 + H2O
