What happens when anhydrous calcium chloride is exposed to air for some time?
Calcium Chloride is deliquescent. Anhydrous Calcium Chloride absorbs moisture from the atmosphere and dissolves in it forming an hygroscopic liquid.
This property of calcium chloride is used in the purification of HCL during its preparation to remove moisture from it. This is the exact same reason CaCL2 is stored in airtight bottles in laboratories.
