Z= ADDITION OF ATOMIC NUMBERS OF ALL ATOMS IN A MOLECULE

Z = 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20

BO= 0 0.5 1 1.5 2 2.5 3 2.5 2 1.5 1 0.5 0

JUST REMEMBER BO OF 14 IS 3 , ABOVE OR BELOW 14 JUST KEEP DECREASING BY 0.5

HENCE THE FINAL IS

N2 Z=14 ……3

N2- Z=15…….2.5

N2+ Z=13…….2

Fluorine molecule,F2, has 18 electrons in total..it has 10 bonding electrons and 8 anti bonding electrons ..therefore its bonding order is 1.

Hi guys let me tell u one short trick for finding bond order…

First of all for the given molecule add up the total no of electrons present in that molecule..

For example here in N2 we have 7+7 =14 electrons.

Now remember this table..

ELECTRONS = BOND ORDER

10 = 1

11 = 1.5

12= 2

13= 2.5

14=3

15=2.5

16=2

17=1.5

18=1

The bond order of He2(+) is 0.5.

The helium molecule ion, He2(+), has altogether three electrons. Out of these three electrons, 2 occupy the lower bonding molecular orbital (MO) and the remaining one occupy the higher antibonding molecular orbital.

Bond order = 1/2( no. of electrons in the bonding MO - no. of electrons in the antibonding MO = 1/2 (2–1) = 1/2 = 0.5

The bond order of the neutral He2 molecule is zero and so it has no existence at the normal conditions.

The bond lengths are inverse to the bond order, so the order is F2+ < F2 .There is 1 unpaired electron in F2+, 0 unpaired electrons in F2.
