What is a list of metallic oxide that are acidic in nature?

Azza Abdelmotamed  Follow

In the first row of transition metals, V2O5, CrO3, and Mn2O7 are acidic oxides, since they form H3VO4, H2CrO4, and HMnO4 by reacting with water. Note that these all have the metal in their highest oxidation states. Probably there are a few more examples in the second and third rows of transition metals.

There at least two familiar acidic oxides that are formed by metals.

1)Chromium trioxide, also known as chromium(VI) oxide.

Its formula is CrO3 and is the anhydride of chromic acid, H2CrO4.

2) Manganese heptoxide, also known as manganese(VII) oxide.

The formula of this oxide is Mn2O7 and it is the anhydride of permanganic acid, HMnO4.

Both chromium and manganese are in their highest oxidation states of +6 and +7 in CrO3 and Mn2O7 respectively.

Potassium dichromate (K2CrO4) and potassium permanganate are the well known salts of chromic acid and permanganic acids respectively.
