What is an equation showing the reaction of each carboxylic acid salt formed above with HCl?
When a salt of a carboxylic acid is treated with a strong mineral acid like hydrochloric acid (HCl), the weaker carboxylic acid gets displaced by the latter.
For instance, sodium acetate gives acetic acid and sodium chloride on mixing with hydrochloric acid.
This type reactions are essentially double displacement reactions in which the weaker carboxylic acids get displaced from their respective salts by strong mineral acids like hydrochloric acid or sulphuric acid.
