What is poured into a burette, acid or base?

Yes. Or in some cases EDTA (of course, that is an acid, but that's not why we use it). You use a strong acid to find base concentration and a strong base to find an acid concentration.

I'm guessing this is a pre-lab question for a gen chem experiment. Which answer is correct will depend on the experiment.

You can read the used amount of liquid from the burett directly. Simple!

If the burett of say 50 ml will be graduated from the top, and the used amount of liquid indicates say 37.8 ml then the titration used up 50.0 ml - 37.8 ml = 12.2 ml

In the burett starts at 0 graduation at the top ……12.2 ml will show the usage immediately! Logical huh?

No Not necessary

Titrant is anything whose concentration is known to us.

Nothing more than that.

In titration of HCl with Na2CO3 , we need to find the concentration of HCl so it is an analyte, but we fill it in burette, and we take solution of Na2CO3 in our flask.

So we are flexibke of doing anything

It can be either, depending on the details of the experiment and most particularly on the indicator you’re using. The most common indicator for acid-base titration is phenolphthalein, which turns from colorless to pink as the pH rises, and if you’re using that it is best to have the base in the burette.

Depends. In water, it's a weak acid. But in a stronger acid, it becomes a base.

This is true for a lot of things. A common example is sulfuric acid and nitric acid. Both strong acids but when mixed, nitric acid is a base and accepts protons from sulfuric acid.

Strong alkalis attack soda-lime glass. Burettes are or at least used to be expensive, so they were protected from the potential damage. When it was necessary to use the alkali in the burette a rubber pinchcock was used instead of a stopcock because the stopcock might “freeze up.” With borosilicate glass and Teflon stopcock plugs, the problem hardly exists anymore.

A burette (also spelled Buret) is a laboratory apparatus used in quantitative chemical analysis to measure the volume of a liquid or a gas. It consists of a graduated glass tube with a stopcock at one end. It bears resemblance to a graduated cylinder however, is more accurate. The most common use for a burette is used in titrations.

In my opinion , hard acid and hard bases have following characteristics are shown below:

Hard Acid :

  • Highly electropositivily charged elements
  • Outermost electrons easily removed
  • Size of atom larg

Examples:

  • H+
  • Na

Hard Base :

  • Having lone pair
  • Hard to oxidized

Examples:

  • F-
