Cl₂O₃ + H₂O → 2H(ClO₂)
when dichlorine trioxide reacts with water the product is Chlorous acid
Dichlorine trioxide + water →Chlorous acid

It is the CONFUSION between reaction and dissolution! ( Of course, many people have!!!)
Cl2 actually, COMPLETELY REACTS with base - NaOH….
While Cl2 DISSOLVES In water and REACTS BY PARTS!!!!
2NaOH + Cl2 → NaCl + NaClO + H2O
While with water…….
Cl2(g) → Cl2(aq)
Then, a fraction of it…..
H2O(l) + Cl2 (aq)→ HCl(aq)+ HClO(aq)
Hence, it seems that Cl2 interacts MORE with NaOH!!!!!
