Which human organ is responsible for detoxifying the blood from toxic substances?
Arsenic and other heavy metals can be found in the blood and in hair samples of people exposed to these substances. Arsenic is particularly dangerous because it is odorless, tasteless, and mimics the symptoms of natural disease processes. It is also cheap and abundant due it is use in chemical manufacturing and smelting.
Heavy metals often build up in the basal ganglia of the brain. When you do a CT or MRI those regions light up because they're full of dense metal. I once saw a brain scan of a person who accidentally recieved a manganese injection into the blood steam. The basal ganglia lit up like a Christmas tree. Even though I had never met the patient, I felt very bad about her prognosis.
