Which is better, fipronil or imidacloprid?

The NIH funded a study in which Fipronil, or Frontline, was scientifically compared to Imidacloprid, sold under the name Advantage, in forest squirrels. It was found that the fipronil was 100% effective for >/= 1 year at lower dosages and Advantage was not effective after 6 weeks! Wow!

Here's the study:

Laboratory evaluation of fipronil and imidacloprid topical insecticides for control of the plague vector Oropsylla montana (Siphonaptera: Ceratophyll... - PubMed - NCBI

That said, subjectively, after using Frontline for approximately 10 years the fleas seemed to become immune to it to a large degree. I switched to selamectin, or Revolution. It kills fleas, roundworms AND heartworms. And the fleas haven't come back!

Spiders are the good guys. They destroy insect pests that give us grief. Leave the spiders alone. If you have company coming over, wipe away any cobwebs you find,if you must. Most spiders are solitary creatures, and only want to be left alone.
