Why EDTA can strip off Zn from Zn-EBT?

Ciel Phantomhive  Follow

EDTA is a common molecule used in chelation therapy. Chelation therapy is the process of removing heavy metals from the body by binding to them and then excreting them.

EDTA has a high affinity for metal ions and can bind to metals such as zinc, iron, and lead. Zinc-bound EBT is a complex that is used in research to study zinc transport.

When EDTA binds to zinc, it disrupts the zinc-EBT complex and causes the release of zinc ions. This process can be used to strip zinc from Zn-EBT or remove other heavy metals from the body.
