Why is aniline more basic than p-nitroaniline?
In paranitroaniline the nitro group at para position is -R group i.e, electron withdrawing so it will induce positive charge on benzene ring thus attracting the lone pair. Now the density of electrons on Nitrogen decreases and become less available for donation. Thus it will be less basic than aniline ( ;

A nitro- functional group is a deactivating group, meaning it will drag electron density towards itself… So that will make the ring less activated than aniline.
