Why is chlorine’s molar mass 70.9 g/mol instead of 35.45?
The molar mass of of chlorine atoms is indeed 35.45 g/mol. BUT the molar mass of chlorine gas is 70.9g/mol. Why is that? You see a molecule of Chlorine is made up of 2 Atoms. Thus the molar mass is twice as big. Just like with Oxygen, Nitrogen, Hydrogen etc.

Molar mass of 1 atom of chlorine is 35.45
But since chlorine exist in diatomic form i.e:Cl2
Therefore, 35.45+35.45=70.9g/mol
Molar mass of 1 atom of chlorine is 35.45
