so3h degradation is complex but general consensus is that it involves two steps: first is dehydration followed by decomposition of sulfonic acid moieties which releases of SO2 gas. Both these processes occur at relatively low temperatures.

At  low temperatures up to 200̊C ,the weight loss in sulfonic polymers is due to loss of moisture content followed by decomposition of sulfonic acid functional groups liberating SO2
