Why use nitric acid and not sulfuric acid in the determination of chloride by the Volhard titration method?
This is for determination of chloride ions by precipitation of silver chloride from excess silver nitrate. It is necessary to have acid solution, so HNO3 is added.
If instead you add sulfuric acid, all the silver will precipitate out as silver sulfate.
