Dear Patrick, Most of water-miscible organic solvents are good solvents for sodium lactate as well. It will depend on sodium lactate concentration anyway. This salt is not tend to percipitate as a crystalls from aqueous solutions. Toluene, that you mentioned, is to remove water as azeotrope from solution as far as i understand. If you want to do it in the same fashion, than you can use abs. ethanol to remove water as azeotrope for example.

Dear Patrick, I don't know the research that are doing, but if you want the lactate salt can you precipitate it with calcium salts sodium cations will remain soluble in aquous media. I need more information for a better response. Best regards

Apologies, I missed your reply. I am using NaOH as the base in fermentation. I would like to avoid calcium as I can regenerate the Na from the NaLac to NaOH and recycle. If I can precipitate it reduces the energy required to evaporate. At the moment, this is merely an academic question. I have found an elegant solution to water evaporation through a different route. However, it is still interesting for me.
