Dear Flavia

if you now the stock concentration and the final concentration you can calculate dilution factor and therefore the volume to add yo the final solution.

eg

stock solution 100mg/ml

1mg = 1000ug therefore 100mg/ml= 100.000ug/ml

if your would like a final 10ug/ul

dilution factor= [stock solution]/[final solution] = 100.000/10= 10.000

Now if you would like to prepare for example 200ml

final volume/dilution factor=volume stock solution

200ml/10.000= 0,02ml --> 20ul

in case you would like 200ml but at 50ug/ml than

dilution factor = 100.000/50= 2.000

then

200ml/200.000= 0,1ml --> 100ul

you need to acquire practicse with the convertion from the different units

eg 1ml= 1000ul
1g=1000mg=1.000-000ug and so on.

Because to compare the different number, all the numbers need to be in the same scale.

Ciao

Manuele

Yes make the units the same. So convert 100 mg/mL into ug/mL = 100,000 ug/mL.

You will now see that your stock requires a 10000x dilution to reach 10 ug/mL and will require a 2000x dilution to reach 50 ug/mL.

You can use c1v1=c2v2 to determine the volumes required to perform the dilutions.

As an example for you 10 ug/mL stock
C1 is 100,000
C2 is 10
V1 is volume of your stock, as an exmaple lets say you pipette 10 ul or 0.01 mL
V2 is final volume
Ex:
(100,000)×(.01)/(10) = 100 mL
Thus you would need to pipette 10 uL into 100 mL (technically 100 mL minus 10 uL).

Someone correct me if im wrong pls..

Hi;
Aaron Dhanda shows how to dilute your concentration. Also, you can use Endmemo (http://www.endmemo.com/sconvert/mg_mlug_ml.php) easily. Your stock solution 100.000 ug/ml; if you want 10 ug/ml take 1 ul from your stock solution and fulfil to 1ml. c1v1=c2v2 formula is the best dilution calculation.

Generally 1 mg/ml = 1000 ug/ml
I would like to suggest you the following link for conversion:
