How can one prepare 6M of sulphuric acid?

Bob Dyar  Follow

You can easily buy 6M sulfuric acid. However, if for some reason you only have access to concentrated sulfuric acid, it’s easy to make 6M. Please make sure you are wearing gloves, an apron and eye protection. If you aren’t an AP or college student you shouldn’t be handling concentrated acids. Concentrated sulfuric acid is 18 M. So you need to add one volume of the concentrated acid slowly to two volumes of water. The dissolution is very exothermic (produces a lot of heat energy) so be careful and NEVER reverse the order of addition and add water to the acid. It might shoot up into your face ruining more than just your day.
