I think Benzaldehyde need anyway an distillation, because it contains Benzyl alcohol and benzoic acid created by Cannizzaro reaction.

If water is an issue, acetone may be dried using boric anhydride.

Cannizarro reaction is base catalysed, a new bottle of benzaldehyde should not have these impurities, I dont se the problem?
