Can I dye dark blue Dickies pants a Chocolate Brown? If so, how would I go about it?

I doubt it , because Dickies are mostly polyester and a little bit cotton …so they won’t take a dye well . Better to look for some pants that are 100% cotton or linen ,and then you can buy RIT dye at the supermarket and cold water dye them in your washing machine .

If, by vertically dye, you mean dye in vertical stripes you could use a traditional tie dye pattern of pleating the fabric.

Like an accordion make about 1” folds back and forth with entire length of the pant legs full width.

Tie with string 4 or 5 places along the length. This does have an effect on the dye pattern but to keep your pleats in place you will need to hold them together. You might also use large metal hair clips or plastic banana clips if those are even available any more.

Prepare a Procon or other commercial dye in a plastic tub and place just that leg into the dye. I’d put the other pant leg into a plastic bag and securely tie that bag shut before beginning the dye process.

I suggest you try this process a few times before you do your pants. Old white t shirts or even old sheet pieces would help you decide how big you want your pleats.

Have fun. Tie dye becomes addicting.
