How do I regulate the flow in an ion exchange column?
Not enough information to answer you properly. how ever I suggest to wash (high speed) 100 cm/hr and when you have to work slowly go down to a flow of about 50-60 cm/hr. Indeed as mentioned above the best way to regulate the column flow is by a peristaltic pump. Good Luck

Of cause a peristaltic pump with the variation of spead. But if not enogh (too high or too slow) you may change the diameter of the tubes applied in the pump. You may calibrate it by weighing the passed liquid volume collected in given times.

Hi Ronny, It depends on the amount of sample. If you work with low volumes like me, you can easily fill a colum with your resin and adjust the effluent flow by a valve at the bottom of the column. This way you prevent flow channelling too because you have a head of water above you resin bed. Picture is attached. Hope this helps you.

By using pump you can regulate flow but if you are using present column then before experiment you have to do some trails and fix this this problem.
