How effective is Lisdexamfetamine (Elvanse-UK/Vyvanse-US) compared to other treatments for ADHD? What are your experiences with this medication?

How effective is Lisdexamfetamine (Elvanse-UK/Vyvanse-US) compared to other treatments for ADHD? What are your experiences with this medication?
I was diagnosed with ADHD and depression about 6 months ago and have been experimenting with Vyvanse and different dosages/releases of Adderall. I find the controlled release Adderall and Vyvanse to be very similar. Maybe one negligible difference is that I feel less food cravings/emotional food impulses on Vyvanse which is why it’s the only proven and prescribed medication for binge eating. So if you’re hoping to loose weight or struggle with impulse eating, Vyvanse might be a better choice.

The methylphenidate helps with the concentration in a similar way to what the lisdexaphetamine does, but I noticed that I was more aware of what I was thinking and more in control over what I spent time thinking about when taking methylphenidate.
However, methylphenidate did make me sluggish. I did feel emotionally blunted and wasn’t able to creatively produce the way I did prior to taking ADHD medication. The lisdexamphetamine does not have this effect to such an extreme and I’m able to continue with my creative ventures.
On methylphenidate, I appeared calmer than what I usually did and less reactive to confrontation. That could be due to the emotional blunting, but I’m the same on the lisdexamphetamine without as much emotional blunting, so that was a great trade-off.
The side effects I experienced for the methylphenidate was an extreme loss of appetite. I would go sometimes go 3–4 days without eating anything despite the pain in my stomach but prior to medicating, I’d always suffered with appetite issues anyway. Eventually after 2 months I began to be able to start eating daily. The lisdexamphetamine was the same initially, but only after 1 week I was able to start eating again.
I experienced more of a crash when the methylphenidate wore off. The brain fog started to descend and I could no longer think straight. For me, with the lisdexamphetamine, there’s not a crash. I smoothly transition off the drug and remain somewhat competent.
I’ve also noticed that the lisdexamphetamine helps with my anxiety better than what the methylphenidate did. I am an anxious person and am still anxious while taking either of the medications, but the anxiety isn’t as paralysing on lisdexamphetamine.
In terms of sociability, I find it slightly easier to talk with others on methylphenidate, but lisdexamphetamine makes me talkative. It removes barriers that methylphenidate couldn’t. I no longer stand on the spot wondering what to say, how to act, where to look. I’m just comfortable with my presence.
Overall it was a great switch for me personally, but we all react differently to medication so it’s worth trying one then reporting back to your health professional to discuss if it has benefitted you before requesting a different prescription.
