What are the equations for the synthesis of dimethyl 2 butanol...

I think the product is 2,3-dimethylbutan-2-ol. For this one you can first make the Grignard reagent from the 2-bromopropane and react this nucleophile with the ketone. After protonation you get the desired product.

Thanks Ivan, I haven't dealt with much of the organic synthesis, so does the equation react in a 1 : 1 ratio?

Rakodi,
You may use
1- Li, THF at 0-5 for ~2-3 hrs then rt ......hr
2- NH4Cl, H2O
---Russ, Alexander S. et al, Chemosphere, 60, 1624-1635 (2005).

Good luck

In principle yes but usually a slight excess of the Grignard is used. Like 1:1.2-1.5 ketone/grignard
