A wet N₂O system relies on an auxiliary fuel system with its own pump which when activated sends extra fuel to the same plate as the nitrous oxide is going to, and is typical in a carbureted application. The N₂O is introduced upstream in the intake tract. It can also be used at the throttle body on a fuel injected engine. A dry system with fuel injectors downstream on the manifold introduces only N₂O into the air stream in the intake, and the existing fuel injection system is made to add the extra fuel to go with it with added fuel pressure. There is also a port injection system, wherein fuel and N₂O are both introduced through fogger nozzles which mix and meter the fuel and nitrous oxide at each cylinder at the intake ports.
