What is the etchant used for the microstructure of annealed...
The most commonly used etchant is modified Fry’s reagent (37.5ml water, 12ml HCL, 6ml HNO3, CuCl2 (0.25g). Apart from this 15% Nital (15% HNO3, 85% Ethanol), Lepitos reagent (50ml acitic acid, 50ml HNO3), Sodium metabisulfite (Na2S2O5 in H2O) and Chromic acid (10%) electrolytic method (10% H2CrO4 in H2O) can also be used.

I personally use modified Fry reagent for maraging steel weldments: 50ml HCl + 25ml HNO3 + 1g CuCl2 + 150ml water. Recommend you to immerse tens of seconds, less than a minute.
