How to avoid emulsion during liquid-liquid partition with...

Chris Gold  Follow

Dear Davi Rabelo de Oliveira ,
Emulsions will almost always be observed. The ideal, to try to avoid this, is that the mixture is done little by little. Care must be taken not to shake vigorously, to avoid the formation of emulsions. If they do form, time must be allowed for the phases to separate. Eventually, when the formation of emulsions is difficult to avoid, very low speed centrifugation can be used to recover the phases. We've done this a few times and it does work, but the spin needs to be at a very low speed...
Best,
Fran
