JX Nippon Oil & Energy (Tokyo) has confirmed it has pulled out of a project with Indonesia’s state-owned energy company Pertamina (Jakarta) to expand Pertamina’s refinery at Balikpapan, Indonesia. JX Nippon has declined to disclose the reasons for its withdrawal because of a confidentiality agreement with Pertamina. According to press reports, JX Nippon and Pertamina cannot agree on the investment amount that will be required for the expansion project as well as the completion date. Pertamina announced at the end of 2014 that it had signed relevant agreements.
