Extreme Coatings expands operations to meet growing demand for wear-resistant coatings

ECHEMI 2024-04-17

Extreme Coatings reports a promising future for its wear-resistant coatings as processors seek to increase efficiency and increase uptime. Extreme Coatings is a supplier of wear-resistant coating solutions to the plastics and rubber industry.

The company cited high levels of business activity and subsequent reinvestment in people, technology development and an expanded global footprint. Extreme Coatings will highlight its latest developments at the upcoming NPE 2024 show.

"Market demand for our wear-resistant coatings has continued to grow over an extended period of time in several key application areas," said Scott Caplan, executive vice president of Extreme Coatings. "Converters realize they can’t afford downtime, so they are looking to our coating solutions to mitigate wear and give them the uptime they need."

The company utilizes advanced thermal spray technology to provide an effective, solution-oriented approach. Extreme Coatings develops proprietary packaging specifically designed to provide targeted solutions for wear and corrosion.

The company offers CarbideX PROLINE™ for high-performance feed screw applications, a process that uses a hard, dense tungsten carbide formulation to encapsulate complex machined parts. It also includes continuous mixing rotors for flight only or fully encapsulated.

Tight-tolerance machinery is most efficient when OEM tolerances are new, so maintaining screw-to-barrel tolerances is critical to efficient production operations. Extreme Coatings' thermal spray technology applies a wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant CarbideX protective coating made of tungsten carbide or chromium carbide to nearly any new or reconditioned feed screw.

The process provides a crack-free, pore-free coating with thicknesses ranging from 0.004 inches to 0.017 inches per side and hardness values in excess of 60HRc. CarbideX PROLINE™ formulas provide like-new performance and at least two to three times the life of your equipment. Wear-resistant coatings can also extend screw life by three to five times. Other key benefits include increased production, reduced preventive maintenance, extended barrel life and significantly reduced downtime.
