Diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) mainly affects the spine, especially the cervical spine. It is characterized by a large number of superficial irregular bone hyperplasias in front and on the lateral edges of the vertebrae, which fuse with each other to form extensive hypertrophic bone blocks in front of the vertebrae. It is also called ankylosing hyperostosis or Forestier disease. This disease is a common disease in animals, including humans. Dinosaurs, prehistoric reptiles and modern whales can be affected, but the most commonly affected animals are mammals such as dogs, horses, monkeys and bears. Evidence of this disease has been found in ancient Egyptian mummies, ancient Romans and ancient Saxons, as well as medieval ancient human fossils.
