Keshan disease in children
Keshan disease is an endemic cardiomyopathy with unknown etiology in my country, characterized by myocardial damage. It was first discovered in Keshan County, Heilongjiang Province in 1935, hence the name Keshan disease. It is prevalent in parts of Northeast, Southwest, and Central and South my country, with the main clinical manifestations being acute or chronic heart failure, accompanied by various arrhythmias. Keshan disease is more common in preschool children, with an acute onset and a very high mortality rate. The cause may be related to malnutrition, deficiency of trace elements such as selenium, or viral infection and fungal toxin poisoning.
