Olfactory impairment
Olfactory impairment refers to a partial or complete decrease, loss or abnormality in olfactory function. The olfactory nerve is a nerve fiber that passes through the cribriform plate of the olfactory epithelium to the olfactory bulb. Olfactory ability is a characteristic of olfactory cells in the nasal mucosa. Damage to the nasal mucosa, olfactory bulb, olfactory filaments or the connection with the central nervous system may affect the sense of smell. Clinical manifestations include hyposmia, anosmia, anosmia, parosmia, olfactory hallucinations and increased sensitivity to olfactory stimuli.
