Calcific valvular disease in the elderly
In 1904, Monckebery first discovered that people would experience degeneration during the natural aging process, leading to calcified aortic stenosis (CAS). In 1910, Dewitsky first described mitral annular calcification (MAC) and believed that this calcification was caused by degeneration. Since then, pathologists and clinicians have systematically observed the age-related changes of heart valves and confirmed that calcific valvular heart disease is a senile disease caused by valve aging, degeneration and calcium deposition that increases with age. It is also called senile degenerative valvular disease or senile cardiac calcification syndrome.
