Diabetes insipidus in children
Diabetes insipidus is a disease in which a large amount of unconcentrated low-specific gravity urine is excreted due to a lack of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) or the kidneys' failure to respond to ADH. This disease can be divided into two categories: central diabetes insipidus and nephrogenic diabetes insipidus. Central diabetes insipidus refers to a lack of ADH, which can be further divided into primary or secondary. The cause of primary diabetes insipidus is unknown, and a few may be hereditary. Secondary diabetes insipidus is seen in intracranial tumors (craniopharyngioma), skull base fractures, intracranial surgery, radiotherapy, histiocytosis, central nervous system infection, etc.
