Spider Angiomas
Spider nevi are spider-like in shape, with radially arranged capillary dilations next to the nevus. Spider nevi are a warning sign of liver failure, as they are common in acute or chronic hepatitis or cirrhosis. Spider nevi vary in size, with the largest ones having a diameter of up to 1.5 cm. The central nevus is raised above the skin surface, and pulsation can be seen on slide compression. The capillaries around the nevus can be seen with the naked eye. They are radially arranged and are prone to occur above the trunk, especially on the face, neck and hands. They can also occur in traumatic sites, often unilateral and single, or multiple. Patients with multiple lesions should be suspected of liver disease regardless of age. Similar damage can occur on the lips and nasal mucosa, but lack obvious typical morphology.
