Gestational diabetes
Pregnancy complicated with diabetes mellitus includes pregnancy in patients with diabetes (i.e. diabetes complicated with pregnancy) and gestational diabetes. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a type of hyperglycemia caused by varying degrees of impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes that is discovered or occurs during pregnancy. According to its definition, this type of diabetes includes two types: one that existed before pregnancy but was diagnosed during pregnancy and one that occurs during pregnancy. It also includes diabetes, impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and impaired fasting glucose (IFG). Gestational diabetes is a high-risk pregnancy that seriously endangers the health of mother and child. Before the advent of insulin, the maternal mortality rate was 27-30%, and the perinatal mortality rate of the fetus was >40%. After the advent of insulin, especially since the development of perinatal medicine, the perinatal mortality rate has dropped significantly.
