Tracheoesophageal fistula
Tracheoesophageal fistula is caused by congenital abnormal embryonic development, which leads to the connection between the trachea and esophagus through a fistula. About half of the patients have other congenital malformations, such as cardiovascular, urogenital and lung dysplasia. Most cases are sporadic, and only a few have a family history.
