Subclinical cretinism
Subclinical cretinism (subclinical cretinism) is a very mild form of cretinism caused by iodine deficiency. These people cannot be diagnosed as typical cretinism, but they are not normal. They often have mild mental retardation as the main feature, which affects the quality of the population in the disease area. Since the incidence rate is much higher than that of cretinism, it constitutes a serious public health problem. In general diseases, especially nutritional deficiency diseases, there will always be a considerable number of people between patients and normal people. In clinical practice, these people are often called "marginal patients" or subclinical patients.
