Mucopolysaccharidosis type VIII
This type is also called Diferrante syndrome. It is characterized by short stature, low intelligence, thick and coarse hair, enlarged liver and multiple chondroitin dysplasia. The cornea is normal and heparin sulfate is excreted in the urine. This disease is autosomal recessive. Ginlsburg et al. (1977) found that a 5-year-old boy had the clinical features of Morquio syndrome, but the difference was that there was (35) chondroitin sulfate storage and delayed clearance in cultured fibroblasts.
