Tinea corporis is a superficial fungal infection on smooth skin other than the hands, feet, perineum and thighs caused by dermatophytes. For example, "Treatise on the Causes and Symptoms of Various Diseases" states: "The symptoms of tinea corporis are round spots, red on all sides, itchy and painful, and worms are also born inside." Another example is recorded in Tinea Symptoms: "The symptoms of tinea disease are that the skin and flesh are covered with round spots like coin patterns, which gradually grow in size, either round or oblique, itchy and painful with rims, as if worms are born inside, and there is juice when scratched." Traditional Chinese medicine believes that tinea corporis is caused by rheumatism evil qi, which invades the skin or is caused by contact with unclean objects.
