Malignant pericardial effusion in the elderly
It is not uncommon for malignant tumors to invade the heart during progression; primary lesions are more common in bronchial lung cancer and mediastinal tumors. Connective tissue diseases and lupus erythematosus can also cause it. Recently, AIDS has been reported to be an important cause of pericardial effusion. If pericardial tamponade occurs, it is an emergency and should be treated urgently.
