Hyperparathyroidism (HPT) is abbreviated as hyperparathyroidism. It is rare to be complicated by pregnancy. Primary hyperparathyroidism is caused by excessive synthesis and secretion of parathyroid hormone (PTH) due to parathyroid gland lesions (tumors or hyperplasia, of which tumors account for about 85%), which leads to hypercalcemia and hypophosphatemia through its effects on bones and kidneys. Secondary hyperparathyroidism is caused by hypercalcemia due to various reasons, which stimulates the parathyroid glands, causing them to proliferate and hypertrophy, and secrete excessive PTH. It is common in renal insufficiency and osteomalacia. In a small number of patients, the glands are persistently stimulated, and some hyperplastic tissues are transformed into adenomas, and excessive PTH is secreted autonomously, which is called tertiary hyperparathyroidism.
