Sudden cardiac death in the elderly
Sudden cardiac death (SCD) in the elderly refers to an unexpected natural death caused by cardiac causes within 1 hour of the onset of symptoms. In the United States, it is estimated that the incidence of sudden cardiac death is 200,000 to 400,000 cases per year, accounting for more than 50% of all cardiovascular deaths. After sudden cardiac death occurs, the success rate of resuscitation is estimated to be only about 20%. It is also estimated that 80% of patients with sudden cardiac death cannot survive to be discharged from the hospital, and 50% of surviving patients die within 3 years. It can be seen that sudden cardiac death is one of the main causes of death that endangers people's lives, and it should arouse the high vigilance of clinicians and patients, and carry out effective prevention and treatment at an early stage.
