Rheumatic fever in children
Rheumatic fever is one of the most common diseases in pediatrics that endanger the life and health of school-age children. Its lesions are non-suppurative inflammation of systemic connective tissue, mainly invading the heart and joints. Other organs such as the brain, skin, serous membranes, and blood vessels may also be affected, but heart damage is the most serious and common. Sometimes the heart can be damaged in the first attack, and repeated attacks can leave two-thirds of the sick children with chronic valvular heart disease. The clinical manifestations are mainly carditis and arthritis, accompanied by fever, toxemia, rash, subcutaneous nodules, chorea, etc.
