Small Intestinal Carcinoid
Small intestinal carcinoid is a tumor originating from the Kulchitsky cells of the intestinal mucosa. Kulchitsky cells are also called enterochromaffin cells. Typical enterochromaffin cells contain secretory granules, which are obviously stained yellow after being treated with potassium dichromate. It also has strong silver affinities. After formaldehyde fixation and staining with silver nitrate solution, the granules in the cytoplasm are stained brown-black.
